Jim Desmond Raises Over $415,000 in First Quarter of Congressional Campaign

San Diego County, CA —Jim Desmond announced today that his campaign for Congress in California’s 49th District has raised over $415,000 in the first fundraising quarter, a powerful show of momentum and support that firmly establishes him as the strongest Republican candidate to flip the seat in November.

The haul, which came from more than 600 individual contributors, sends a clear message: voters in the 49th District are ready for a change.

“During an off year, the fact we were able to raise this many dollars from over 600 individuals shows that the people are ready for change in the 49th District,” said Desmond. “Common sense is the way forward, and I’m proud to be leading a movement rooted in trust, results, and restoring accountability to Washington.”

Desmond enters the race with a unique and unmatched advantage: a proven track record of winning in blue territory. In 2022, he won re-election to the County Board of Supervisors by a 20-point margin in a district that leans +6 Democrat. Prior to that, Desmond was elected to the San Marcos City Council, served three terms as Mayor, and is now in his second term as County Supervisor.

“As a County Supervisor, I currently represent one-third of the 49th District — and before redistricting, it was over 50%,” Desmond added. “No past Republican challenger has had this advantage. I already have name recognition, trust, and a proven record in key cities like Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Vista.”

Desmond’s campaign has also been buoyed by a growing list of high-profile endorsements, including:

  • Congressman Darrell Issa

  • Senator Brian Jones

  • Assemblymember Carl DeMaio

  • Assemblymember Laurie Davies

  • Former 49th Candidate Brian Maryott

  • National Athlete and Advocate Riley Gaines

  • National Border Patrol Council

  • Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County

  • Oceanside Police Officers Association

  • Mayors of Vista and San Clemente

  • And many more regional leaders and organizations.

With this early fundraising success, grassroots support, and a broad coalition of endorsements, Jim Desmond is well-positioned to take back the 49th District and restore common sense representation to Congress.
