Riley Gaines Endorses Jim Desmond for Congress
National women’s sports advocate and former NCAA athlete Riley Gaines officially endorsed Jim Desmond in his campaign for Congress, citing his unwavering commitment to fairness in women’s sports and standing up against radical policies that threaten female athletes’ opportunities.
Gaines, a 12-time All-American swimmer, has been at the forefront of the movement to protect women’s sports after competing against male Lia Thomas in the NCAA Championships. She has worked tirelessly to defend the integrity of female athletics, and she believes Desmond is the right leader to fight for common sense policies in Washington.
“Jim Desmond has consistently stood up for women and fought to ensure female athletes have a fair playing field. His leadership and willingness to take a stand when others remain silent is exactly what we need in Congress,” said Gaines. “I’m proud to endorse Jim because I know he will protect women’s sports and stand up for reality.”
Desmond, recently worked with Gaines to challenge San Diego State University’s decision to compete against a team that included a male. He has pledged to support legislation that ensures women's sports remain exclusively for female athletes.
“I’m honored to have Riley Gaines’ endorsement and to stand with her in the fight to protect women’s sports,” said Desmond. “This isn’t about politics—it’s about fairness. Female athletes deserve equal opportunities and a level playing field, and I will never back down from defending their rights.”
Desmond also pointed out that his opponent voted against protecting women’s sports, aligning with radical policies that undermine fairness and the achievements of female athletes.
